The incident occurred late on Monday night in the Melagarh Purba Chandigarh area, reportedly over a dispute related to illegal trade. The injured person, Atanu Pal Roy, is currently undergoing treatment at GB Hospital.

The Melagarh Municipality Chairperson has filed a complaint against the accused at Melagarh police station, alleging that Devvrat Bhattacharya, the BJP Sipahijala District (South) President, led the attack. She also claimed to have been molested by the attackers from her own party.

When the Chairperson went to lodge a complaint, the police failed to arrest the accused, prompting a protest by BJP leaders and workers. They blocked the road and laid siege to the Melagarh police station, demanding justice.

The Chairperson has vowed to approach Chief Minister Rajib Bhattacharya and MLA Kishore Barman to seek their intervention in the matter.

The Melagarh police station has launched an investigation into the incident, and details are awaited. The incident has sent shockwaves through the region, with many demanding swift action against the accused.
