Agartala, July 24: A group of students and outsiders armed with knives and rods entered Umakanta School during school hours on Wednesday, resulting in injuries to four students and guardians. The incident began with the vandalism of a student’s scooter outside the school, escalating into a violent confrontation.
According to a school teacher, students were informed to arrive by 10:45 AM for a human chain event and sports activities. The school day proceeded as planned until around 2:00 PM, when a group of students and outsiders entered the premises with weapons. Guardians sitting near the school gate noticed the commotion and became suspicious. Teachers inside the school called for the guardians’ assistance.
Upon entering the school, the guardians found a fight between students of classes IX and X, involving 7 to 8 outsiders. Teachers and guardians managed to calm the situation, but two of the injured students needed hospital treatment. As they were being taken to IGM Hospital, some students attacked them again on the road and at the hospital.
A teacher reported the incident to West Agartala Police Station, and police arrived shortly after, but the outsiders had fled. Family members of the injured students gathered at the school.
School teachers indicated that similar incidents had occurred recently and believed this incident was pre-planned to tarnish the school’s reputation. The perpetrators have been identified, and a case will be filed against them. The injured students are Rajdeep Das (Class IX), Shubhrajit Pal, Amitosh Das, and Shyamajit Das (Class X). The injured students claimed the incident occurred in front of teachers who did not intervene.
Rajdeep’s father reported threats from outsiders against his family. He criticized the lack of security and oversight by the teachers, questioning how outsiders could repeatedly enter the school and attack students. Guardians are demanding exemplary punishment for those responsible.
