Agartala:  July 22: The United Kisan Morcha Tripura held a meeting on Monday at the farmers’ office in Melarmath, followed by a press conference. Key leaders, including state committee convenor Pavitra Kar, Jai Gobind Devarai, Ratan Das, Rasbihari Ghosh, and Raghunath Sarkar, addressed the media.

During the press conference, Pavitra Kar criticized the central government for not fulfilling the promises made during the historic farmers’ movement. He announced that the United Kisan Morcha would launch a nationwide program to remind the government of these unfulfilled commitments. The organization plans to present a demand certificate to all MPs, calling for the legal declaration of a minimum support price, the withdrawal of GST from agriculture, a monthly pension of Rs 10,000 for food donors above 60 years of age, and the provision of life insurance for food donors.

Mr. Kar also alleged that a female CPIM candidate for the West Tripura Zilla Parishad was threatened by the ruling party to withdraw her nomination. He mentioned similar threats faced by a CPIM candidate in Bamutia. Additionally, he accused a minister of fraudulent activities in Mohanpur, preventing CPIM from attending an all-party meeting.

He emphasized that despite the lessons from the Lok Sabha elections, the BJP has not changed its approach. He warned that a full-scale farmers’ movement would commence on August 9 across the country to challenge the current government.
