Agartala: Dec 22: The rehabilitation of 38,000 Bru tribe members of the Riang community has been made possible through the efforts of the Bharatiya Janata Party. Union Home Minister Amit Shah expressed his satisfaction with this achievement while inaugurating various projects in Dhalai district today.
As per an agreement reached in 2020, the Bru rehabilitation has been carried out in Haduk Lau Para of Dhalai district. On Sunday, Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah reviewed the implementation of the agreement. He was accompanied by the state’s Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, West Tripura Lok Sabha MP Biplab Kumar Deb, East Tripura Lok Sabha MP Pratiti Singh, and other officials during his visit to Dhalai district.
Meanwhile, six new projects were inaugurated by Union Home Minister Amit Shah at Kulai in Dhalai district on Sunday. Simultaneously, the foundation stone of seven more projects was laid. The total cost of the 13 projects is Rs. 668.39 crore. After the inauguration, he expressed his satisfaction with the development of the state and the improvement in the lives of the Bru tribe.
The Union Home Minister noted that for 25 years, the Bru tribe had been living a very difficult life, with many families sharing a single shed and lacking proper sanitation, education, and adequate food and drinking water. During the Communist Party’s rule, no attention was paid to the tribes, resulting in their lagging behind in development. However, with the change in Tripura’s government and the BJP coming to power, arrangements were made for the stay of 40,000 Bru refugees with the help of the central government. The BJP government has provided education facilities, employment opportunities, clean drinking water, and various special facilities for women to the Bru tribe, leading to their development.
The BJP government has focused on the state’s development through various schemes. Since 1998, Bru refugees, who were living in dire conditions, have received accommodation in 11 villages at a cost of Rs. 900 crore. The Union Home Minister visited the Bru rehabilitation area today and inspected the arrangements.
The Bru refugees will receive a grant of Rs. 5,000 from the central government for 24 months. Additionally, various facilities such as education and clean drinking water are available for the Bru tribe under different schemes. Amit Shah mentioned that various projects related to this matter were inaugurated today.
He further stated that when he first came to Tripura in 2017 as the president of the BJP, there were only a few party members. Today, he is pleased to see the development of Tripura and thanked Chief Minister Manik Saha, former Chief Minister and current MP Biplab Deb, and party workers for their efforts.
Amit Shah highlighted the significant changes in the state since the BJP government came to power, including the provision of clean drinking water, electricity to remote areas, and improvements in education, resulting in an increased literacy rate. He emphasized that when those who believe in democracy are in power, the country develops accordingly.
Addressing the people present, he expressed confidence in the BJP’s leadership and progress in the state under the leadership of Manik Saha. He concluded by stating that he would return home with a lot of satisfaction after inspecting the living arrangements of the Bru refugees.
