Agartala: Dec 11: In yet another anti-narcotic drive, police on Wednesday detained two women with at least 8.4 kg of Ganja worth around Rs 1.5 lakh from Jogendranagar rail station.
Briefing the reporters regarding the incident, OC of East Agartala police station Rana Chatterjee said, “Based on specific information, a team of police led by Women Sub-Inspector Kamala Murasing, Sub-Inspector Narayan Deb, and College Tilla OC and Sub-Inspector Shyamal Debnath rushed to the rail station at Jogendranagar and detained two women.”
The detained individuals were identified as Putul Debi and Sangita Debi. They were supposed to smuggle the Ganja abroad, he said, adding that upon searching, at least 8.4 kg of Ganja was found in their possession, having a market value of around Rs 1.5 lakh.
He further mentioned that during the interrogation, the detained women revealed the names of others associated with the smuggling racket, following which legal action will be taken against them. A specific case has been registered against the detained women under the NDPS Act, police told reporters.
