Two More Arrested in West Tripura District Court Clerk Amit Acharya Murder Case

Agartala: April 25:  Police of West Tripura district have arrested two more accused in the murder case of West Tripura District Court clerk Amit Acharya. Advocate Digbijoy Modak and clerk Shivduta Biryua were arrested on Wednesday. They were arrested from Ujan Abhayanagar and Indranagar Muslim Para in the morning.

So far, a total of six people have been arrested in this case. Earlier, on April 3, police of West Tripura police station arrested advocate Rajesh Sarkar and clerk Rajiv Dev. On September 5, a clerk named Amit Acharya was beaten up by several lawyers and clerks in the court premises of West Tripura District and Sessions Judge. Amit Acharya, who was seriously injured in the incident, died on September 23 in Kolkata.

A police case was registered under Section 302 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code against advocate Rajesh Sarkar, Gopal Singh, Anirban Talapatra and clerks of advocates Shivduta Baruah, Sudip Dev and Rajiv Dev on the basis of a complaint lodged by the family of the deceased Amit Acharya. In this case, on November 12, 2023, the police arrested an advocate named Gopal Singh from Bardowali. After that, another lawyer named Anirban Talapatra was arrested. The police were continuing to search for the remaining accused in the incident. It is also reported that a police team has gone to Kolkata in search of the accused in this sensational murder case. This time, two more accused were caught by the police on Wednesday. They were absconding since the incident.

West Tripura police station OC Paritosh Das said that the investigating officer of the case, Ranjit Das, arrested them on Wednesday morning. They were produced in court today seeking their three-day police remand. The OC of West Tripura police station further said that no one is above the law, whoever is involved in this murder case will have to be punished. The police will not spare anyone. Advocate Gopal Singh was absconding for a long time. Finally, West Agartala police station arrested Gopal Singh involved in this murder case. Then advocate Anirban Talapatra, later Rajesh Sarkar and clerk Rajiv Dev. All will be caught one by one.

Meanwhile, the mother of the deceased Amit Acharya told the media that on September 5, 2023, clerk Amit Acharya was sitting on a steel chair outside the fourth floor of the district court. Just then, advocate Rajesh Sarkar got into an argument with Amit over a GRPS case, then advocates Gopal Singh, Rajesh Sarkar, Anirban Talapatra, clerk Shivduta Baruah started beating clerk Amit Acharya with kicks and punches. Amit Acharya’s wife Sanchita Saha Acharya claims that the entire incident was recorded in the CCTV footage of the building on the fourth floor of the district court.

Apart from this, she alleges that after beating Amit on the fourth floor of the district court, advocate Rajesh Sarkar, Gopal Singh, Bibhas Debbarma, beat him again by closing the door of the lift. Sanchita Devi alleges that after being beaten up randomly, Amit was taken to the Tripura Bar Association where he was also beaten up. The police of the court got the news from the Bar Association and rescued him.
