Agartala September 12: While bringing Burmese betel nuts from Karimganj to Dharmanagar, Assam Churaibari police caught two youths with betel nuts. The incident happened around 9 am on Tuesday. It is known that an attempt was made to smuggle these illegal Burmese betel nuts along with one hundred carton eggs from Karimganj in Assam in a cargo vehicle bearing the number TR 05 F-1768.

As soon as Assam Churaibari police came to the Naka point, the police seized the car and searched and arrested these illegal Burmese betel nuts. There were ten sacks of betel nut of fifty kg each. Its black market value is said to be around two and a half lakh rupees. Two illegal Burmese betel nut traders were also arrested. Their names are Zulfiqar Ali and Prosenjit Deb. The house of both is in Ward No. 2 of Nadiapur-Shanichhara village under Churaibari police station in Tripura. The police filed a case against them and handed it over to the Bazarichara police.
