Agartala, March 14: In a significant move aimed at bolstering the tea industry, Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha laid the foundation stone for a state-of-the-art tea auction center in Gurkhabasti, the capital’s bustling area. The project, spearheaded by the Tripura Tea Development Corporation (TTDC), promises to revolutionize tea trade in the region.
Speaking at the event, Chief Minister Saha emphasized the center’s pivotal role in supporting tea growers. The decision to establish this auction hub stems from the industry’s persistent challenges, including steep transportation costs and protracted sales cycles. By facilitating efficient transactions, the tea auction center aims to enhance competitiveness and benefit both producers and consumers.
The state government’s commitment to the tea sector extends beyond infrastructure development. Initiatives such as wage increases for tea workers and land provisions underscore their dedication to fostering a thriving tea economy. Chief Minister Saha reiterated that the tea industry remains a vital component of Tripura’s economic fabric, and its sustained growth is a priority for the administration.
The inaugural ceremony witnessed the presence of Industry and Commerce Minister Santana Chakma, TTDC Chairman Samir Ghosh, and other dignitaries, signifying the collective effort to elevate Tripura’s tea trade to new heights.
