Agartala: Mar 07: On Friday, an award distribution program for the Panchayat Raj system, along with the distribution of 475 computers to rural local bodies, was held at Rabindra Shatabarshiki Bhavan. Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha inaugurated the event by lighting the ceremonial lamp.
During his address, the Chief Minister highlighted the Prime Minister’s vision of empowering women by ensuring that all panchayats in the country are run by women. He noted that four gram panchayat samitis in Tripura are already entirely managed by women, and the administration has directed that all officers assigned to these panchayats should also be women. This initiative has been communicated to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Dr. Saha emphasized the importance of equipping panchayat buildings with computer and internet services to ensure data security and accessibility. He remarked on the transformative role of technology in governance, stating that the introduction of computers would enhance transparency and efficiency, paving the way for the creation of digital and robust panchayats. He also claimed that Tripura has become the first state in India to implement the e-panchayat system across all levels of the Panchayat Raj structure, describing it as a significant achievement.
The Chief Minister encouraged panchayat workers to continue their efforts, assuring that those who were not recognized this year could earn awards in the future through dedicated work. He stressed that transparency is the cornerstone of recognition and contributes to the nation’s reputation.
The event concluded with the Chief Minister presenting awards to the honored panchayats. Among the dignitaries present were Panchayat Department Secretary Abhishek Singh and West Tripura District Assistant Chairman Biswajit Shil.
