Agartala, May 19: Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, accompanied by Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury, on Monday visited the grieving family of two minor siblings who tragically lost their lives in an unfortunate incident a day earlier.
The Chief Minister and his team visited the residence of the deceased, Prasenjit Debnath and Priyanka Debnath, in the East Chanmari area of Agartala. The siblings had been reported missing on Saturday, and their bodies were later recovered from a small water pit near a construction site on Sunday. The discovery of their lifeless bodies has sent shockwaves through the local community.
Expressing deep sorrow, Dr. Saha and Minister Chowdhury met the bereaved family and extended heartfelt condolences. On behalf of the state government, they handed over a cheque of Rs. 8 lakh to Krishna Debnath, the father of the deceased and a daily-wage labourer. The Chief Minister assured the family that the government would stand beside them in this tragic hour and explore every possible means of support.
Speaking to the media following the visit, Dr. Saha hinted that the government may also consider extending support for the family’s elder daughter, who is currently a Class XII student. He acknowledged the severe emotional and financial toll the incident has taken on the family and promised to look into ways to assist her future education.
Dr. Saha further informed that a preliminary report on the incident had been submitted by the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) after visiting the spot and reviewing CCTV footage on Sunday.
The Chief Minister was accompanied by West Tripura District Magistrate Dr. Vishal Kumar and other senior officials during the visit.
