On Monday, the traffic police conducted a drive in Maharaja Ganj market, an area notorious for its persistent traffic jams. The frequent loading and unloading of vehicles along the roadside contribute significantly to the congestion. Even with a few traffic police officers on duty, managing the traffic in Maharaja Ganj market has proven to be an insurmountable task.

Led by Traffic DSP Sudhambaika Aare, a large team of traffic police conducted the drive in Maharaja Ganj market. As a final warning, vehicle owners and drivers who had parked illegally on the roadside were cautioned. DSP Sudhambaika Aare announced that this was a special drive and that drivers were being warned. However, strict action would be taken against those who disregarded the instructions.

The question now is whether these measures will be effective. The lack of adequate traffic personnel has led to a breakdown in services. The state’s traffic department is operating with a skeleton staff. Some traffic personnel lack the necessary expertise to address congestion effectively. As a result, traffic congestion has become the most pressing issue in Agartala city. The failure to resolve this issue is a testament to the ineffectiveness of the traffic police.
