Agartala: Nov 26: Contrary to the assurances given by former Tribal Welfare Minister Rampada Jamatia, none of the demands of the surrendered members of the DRMC have been fulfilled in the past two and a half years. Expressing strong resentment against the government’s role, the surrendered members of the DRMC held a press conference on Tuesday.
Amrit Riang, the general secretary of the organization, informed at a press conference held at the Agartala Press Club that the DRMC had a meeting with the then Tribal Welfare Minister Rampada Jamatia on June 13, 2022.
During the meeting, in the presence of the state’s chief secretary, the secretary of the Tribal Welfare department, and other officials, the minister assured that the nine-point demand would be met, which included providing a house to each surrendered family through the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, providing power tillers, providing rubber plantations to 1000 families, making arrangements for the education of children, and withdrawing cases filed against them in various police stations. However, surprisingly, the present government has not fulfilled even a single demand till now. Therefore, through today’s press conference, a demand has been made to the government to fulfill the mentioned demands immediately. Otherwise, they have warned that they will launch a larger movement from January or February.
