Agartala, January 11: A state-of-the-art tea auction center has been set up at Srimangal in Sylhet district of Bangladesh. Through the use of this centre, the state government is making relentless efforts to auction Tripura tea in the international market and export Tripura tea to Bangladesh. For this purpose, the current government of the state is in regular contact with the central government and the government of Bangladesh. The Industries and Commerce Minister gave this information in response to an attention-grabbing notice brought by MLA Birjit Sinha in the state assembly today.
He said that Tripura’s Department of Industry and Commerce and Department of Transport are making joint efforts to take Rajo tea leaves to Kolkata’s tea auction market via Bangladesh. Because the cost of transporting tea leaves to the auction market in Kolkata is very high. If it is possible to transport through Bangladesh, the transport cost will be much less.
The Minister of Industry and Commerce said, with the financial assistance of North Eastern Council (NEC), a DPR of Rs. Approval received for modernization of BTPF, Brahmakund (Simna) Tea Factory. The Department of Rural Development will start the modernization work.
Industry and Commerce Minister said, with the joint financial support of Janjati Kalyan Daptar and Tripura Tea Development Corporation, it has been decided to set up a mini tea factory at Machmara tea plantation in Unkoti district. Tripura Industrial Development Corporation will work on this project. This will increase the employment opportunities of small tea farmers and local people in the adjoining areas.
The Minister of Industry and Commerce said that the tourism department has taken initiatives to attract the attention of tourists by making the lodges located in Kamalasagar, Brahmakunda and Durgabari tea gardens of high quality. Department of Tourism has sent DPR to NEC for construction of modern picnic spot with loghut, kids play ground, car park, boating facility at Kamalasagar tea plantation tourist lodge under T Tourism.
