Agartala: June 25, 2024 — Ahead of the budget presentation in Parliament, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman convened a meeting with state Finance Ministers, a customary practice. During this meeting, Tripura’s Finance Minister, Pranjit Singh Roy, put forth 23 demands on behalf of the state.
The state of Tripura relies significantly on central support, and its demands cover a range of critical areas. These include requests for a special financial package, the establishment of an AIIMS-style hospital, a double-lane railway track, funding for the speedy completion of a national highway under construction, a special fund for ADC (Autonomous District Council) areas, and the establishment of two central schools.
Minister Roy expressed optimism that Tripura would benefit from the proposed budget. Given the state’s current financial challenges, the allocation of a special financial package assumes great importance. All eyes are now on the Union Budget to see if it addresses these crucial demands for the betterment of Tripura.
