In a recent development, seven members of the Oriental Club who were arrested in connection with the assault on the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Belonia Police Station on Friday night were granted bail by a local court on Saturday. The incident, which took place during Durga Puja festivities, has sparked public concern over law and order in the area.

The individuals granted bail include Alak Banik (Club Secretary), Bijay Biswas (Puja Committee Secretary), Sribas Sen (President of the Puja Committee), and club members Subrata Debnath, Litan Debnath, Aditya Dutta, and Litan Hazari. They were taken into custody following the violent altercation that unfolded in the heart of Belonia.

According to reports, the confrontation began when members of the Oriental Club allegedly obstructed the Dashami immersion procession of the 1 No. Tilla Merchant Association, leading to a dispute between both groups. The situation quickly escalated into a heated argument that disrupted public order in the area.

Police personnel rushed to the spot to control the situation. However, when Officer-in-Charge Shibu Ranjan Dey attempted to stop the sound system of the Oriental Club for violating noise regulations, he was reportedly physically assaulted by a few club members in a shocking act of defiance. The incident was widely condemned by the public and drew sharp reactions from across the political spectrum.

Authorities have since tightened security in Belonia to prevent further disturbances. The police have confirmed that investigations are continuing, and appropriate legal action will be taken based on the findings.

The incident has once again highlighted growing challenges in maintaining law and order during large public gatherings and the urgent need for mutual respect between citizens and law enforcement officials.
