Agartala: July 31: Smart City is currently experiencing a security challenge, with an increase in thefts and related activities. The Sub-Divisional Police Officer reported that several bikes and auto-rickshaws were stolen in Agartala city over the past week. Complaints have been filed at the police station.

In response, the police formed a committee to investigate the incidents. On Wednesday morning, officers from East Agartala police station arrested a suspect named Prantush Dev. During interrogation, Dev revealed that he had hidden an auto-rickshaw and two bikes in a jungle in Bonkumari Nath Para. The police subsequently recovered an auto-rickshaw (TR 01 ER 3448) and two bikes (TR 01 ER 5492 and TR 01 AU 7857) from the location.

Further investigation led to the identification of additional suspects: Sujit Malakar, Chanki Chowdhury, Amit Goswami, and Rupak Malakar, whose residences are in various parts of the city. The police arrested these individuals and learned that they had stolen vehicles from Nim Bridge, Maharajganj Bazar, and CR Road. The suspects have been involved in stealing and dismantling vehicles to sell their parts.

The police have gathered comprehensive information from the arrested individuals and are continuing their investigation to apprehend the entire network involved in these thefts. Despite these efforts, the rise in theft cases in the city remains a concern, with vehicles being stolen even in broad daylight. The police are working to enhance surveillance and address the security issues in the city.
