Agartala: Jan 15: A newly constructed restroom, funded by a local MLA’s development fund, was vandalized before its inauguration, raising questions about the state of governance.
On Tuesday night, in a so-called state of good governance, miscreants vandalized a restroom that was being constructed using funds from the MLA’s Area Development Fund. The restroom was being built in front of Gandhi School in the 9-Bonmalipur Assembly constituency to provide a resting place for students and their parents.
The construction of the restroom was yet to be completed when it was vandalized. The nameplate of the MLA, Gopal Chandra Roy, was broken and thrown away. Several other parts of the under-construction restroom were also damaged.
School teachers discovered the vandalism on Wednesday morning. The restroom was scheduled to be inaugurated on January 18th. A school teacher said that upon arriving at the school, they noticed the damage and informed the headmaster. The headmaster also visited the site and confirmed the incident. The local MLA, Gopal Chandra Roy, has been informed about the incident. The incident has caused a stir in the area.
Upon receiving the news, the East Agartala police rushed to the scene and have launched an investigation. It remains to be seen if the police can identify and apprehend the culprits.
