Agartala: BJP Tripura state president Rajib Bhattacharjee, the State President of the BJP, spoke at a political gathering in Kailashahar on Friday and indicated that even within the Congress party, there are leaders who are eager to join the saffron party.
He said, “To destroy the BJP, the Congress has a meeting right beside the BJP’s gathering. However, the Congress does not seem to have a foothold among the local people. The Congress leader addressing the gathering has taken a step towards the BJP.”
He further mentioned that some voters who earlier subscribed to the vague ideology of Congress and CPI(M) have realized their mistake and joined the BJP for a better Tripura.
“They have taken a timely decision. The existence of the Congress is gradually dwindling”, he claimed. Without naming the local Congress MLA Birajit Sinha , the BJP leader pointed to the Congress leader conducting a meeting some two kilometers away from the venue of this meeting is also gradually stepping forward to join the BJP.
Addressing the gathering, Minister Tinku Ray said that in various constituencies across the state, we failed to secure a victory in the recent elections. Many members of the numerical minority community believed that we would not work for them. After being elected from this seat, the Left party had not done much for the numerical minority community. They contested from this constituency on multiple occasions but did not do much for the community even after gaining victory. He noted that people within this area are deeply involved in the agarbatti (incense stick) business. Under the Left Front, they were compelled to sell their agarbattis as ‘second-class’ products, incurring losses. This time, following the formation of the BJP government, several agarbatti units have been established in the state, providing economic relief to the agarbatti producers. Minister Tinku Ray indicated that the BJP government is determined to work for the welfare of the people.
Significantly, during this assembly, various party members from different factions defected from their respective parties to join the BJP, totaling 269 voters from 65 different families. With party flags in hand, they were welcomed into the BJP by the State President, Rajiv Bhattacharya.
