Agartala April 20: Transport Minister Sushanta Chowdhury met Ashwini Vaishnab, Minister of Railways, Communications and Electronic and Information Technology Department of the Central Government in New Delhi on April 19 and wished her Bengali New Year. Then Transport Minister Sushanta Chowdhury informed the Union Railway Minister about some important issues and problems related to the railway communication system of Tripura state.
Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnab listened very patiently and earnestly to the issues raised by Transport Minister Sushanta Chowdhury and agreed with the rationale of the demands. Realizing the importance of the demands, the Union Railway Minister assured to take appropriate action soon. Minister Sushanta Chowdhury said this in a press conference at secretariat on Friday. While informing about the Agartala-Akhaura railway, Minister Sushanta Chowdhury said that the 12 and a half km road on the edge of India is being constructed by IRCON. Another organization is working on the edge of Bangladesh. Its construction will be completed by next September. After that it will be opened for both countries, he said. The Union Railway Minister has appealed to the donor ministry to provide an additional Rs 150 crore in this regard. It will be provided immediately. He said that the work is going on in a wartime manner. Pecharthal, Dharmanagar, Kailashahar do not have rail lines. Chief Minister has given letter to build this rail link. Again the matter has been brought to the attention of the Union Minister. The minister has ordered to quickly look into the proposal and take action. 1855 crore will be spent on it.
Construction of rail yard at new railway station at Sabroom is in progress. The state government had demanded a double line from Lamding to Sabroom. Agartala railway station has been demanded to be upgraded to an international railway station. The Union Minister said that 24 lakh 42 thousand rupees have been paid for the construction of DP. Minister Sushanta Chowdhury said that the Union Minister will come to the state within the next three months to lay the foundation stone of this project. A demand has been made to extend the 30 km railway line from Belonia to Feni border. The minister said that after the completion of the work of Nischintpur, the work of Belonia will begin. Dropping of goods is arranged at Agartala, Shakercot, Bishalgarh and Savanthganj. Minister Sushanta Chowdhury said that positive indications have been found in this case as well.
