Agartala: Senior Congress leader and MLA, Sudip Roy Barman, disclosed that Congress CWC member Rahul Gandhi, is set to embark on a two-day visit to Tripura after the upcoming elections in five states next month.

Barman informed the media persons about Gandhi’s possible tour to the North Eastern state, following a brief meeting with party MP at the MBB Airport in Agartala. Rahul Gandhi who is on his way to poll bound Mizoram for campaign, made a stopover at Agartala Airport to catch a chopper for his destination. His private charter flight will take him back on Tuesday evening.

Sudip Roy Barman, who also serves as a permanent invitee member of the Congress Working Committee, shared insights with the press, stating that Rahul Gandhi had a brief interaction with TPCC (Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee) leaders to gain a better understanding of the local political landscape.

“Upon his arrival in Agartala, he directed us to meet him and discuss several matters concerning the organizational strengths and weaknesses of the Congress party. He reassured us that he would allocate two days to visit our state after the elections in the five states conclude,” Barman informed the reporters.

Regarding the details of their discussion, the Congress leader emphasized that most of the issues deliberated during the meeting are of a confidential nature and pertain to party organization.

It’s worth noting that former TPCC (Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee) President Birajit Sinha, who also holds the status of a senior party legislator from Kailashahar, was conspicuously absent from the meeting. Of the three MLAs, only Sudip Roy Barman and Gopal Chandra Roy were part of the five-member delegation that had the opportunity to meet with Rahul Gandhi.

Insiders within the party suggest that Sinha’s diminished role may be attributed to the ascendancy of Sudip Roy Barman and his close confidante, Asish Kumar Saha, within the party’s leadership.

TPCC President Asish Kumar Saha, Tripura Pradesh Youth Congress President Rakhu Das, former MLA DC Hranghkhwal, Youth leader Baptu Chakraborty were present welcomed the senior Congress leader apart from Barman.
