Agartala, February 28: Pradyot Kishore Debbarma, the founder of the Tipraha Indigenous Progressive Regional Alliance (TIPRA) Motha Party, has temporarily suspended his hunger strike. The decision came after he received a phone call from New Delhi inviting him for a meeting to discuss the constitutional solution for the development of tribal populations in the state.

Debbarma had embarked on an indefinite hunger strike, offering prayers at the Mangalchandi temple in the Rajbari before departing for Bodhjungnagar. The hunger strike was scheduled to take place at the foot of Bodhjungnagar today, demanding a constitutional resolution.

Speaking to media persons gathered at the protest site, Debbarma stated, “Got a call from Delhi. I have to go to Delhi.” He instructed his party leaders to remain on the stage and urged his supporters to return home. His hunger strike will continue until he receives a written assurance from the central government.

“I shall go to Delhi and talk to them with an empty stomach. I shall not eat anything until I receive any positive response from there,” asserted Debbarma. He cautioned his supporters against premature celebrations, emphasizing that he would not compromise on the cause.

The TIPRA Motha Party, formed in 2021, advocates for the creation of Greater Tipraland—a separate state for tribals residing in the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) and other northeastern states.
