Agartala: Oct 28: On Monday, Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha convened a preparatory meeting for the upcoming 43rd Agartala Book Fair, set to commence on January 2 at the Agartala Hapania International Ground. During the meeting, held at the Agartala Muktadhara Auditorium, Dr. Saha emphasized the need to encourage youth engagement with literature, particularly in an era dominated by social media and the internet. He acknowledged the challenge of highlighting the significance of books to the younger generation but urged stakeholders to take proactive measures in promoting reading habits.
The Chief Minister proposed that this year’s book fair should focus on involving more youths and students, fostering a love for reading among them. He also encouraged attendees to purchase books during the event, underscoring the importance of supporting local authors and publishers.
Dr. P K Chakraborty, Secretary of the Information and Cultural Affairs Department, shared insights from the previous year’s fair, which revolved around the theme “Bhavya Bharat.” The 42nd Agartala Book Fair featured 175 book stalls and attracted around 1,600 artists from across the state, making it a significant cultural event. This year’s fair aims to build on that success, offering an even broader platform for literary and artistic expression.
As preparations continue, there is a palpable excitement within the community about the potential of the book fair to inspire a new generation of readers. The emphasis on youth participation and the celebration of literature reflect a commitment to nurturing a vibrant cultural landscape in Tripura. Through these initiatives, the government aims to rekindle interest in reading and enhance the overall cultural fabric of the region.
