Agartala: Oct 02: In a ceremony organized by the Transport Department at Agartala MBB Airport, the prepaid taxi counter was inaugurated. Transport Minister Sushant Chowdhury led the inauguration by cutting the ribbon. During his speech, the minister emphasized the crucial role of auto-rickshaw and prepaid taxi drivers in the development of Tripura state. He highlighted that the state’s progress is closely tied to the contributions of these drivers.
Addressing the drivers, Minister Chowdhury urged them to remain at the airport until the last flight of the day arrives to ensure passengers have access to transportation. He stressed that if passengers are left without vehicles upon arrival, it would reflect poorly on the Transport Department. The minister also advised the drivers to maintain good behavior with passengers, noting past incidents of misbehavior that have caused concern for the government. He emphasized the importance of creating a positive environment and avoiding setbacks.
Minister Chowdhury mentioned plans to introduce Ola and Uber services at MBB Airport in the future, similar to other states. He praised the reputation of Tripura’s smallest airport and appealed to the drivers to uphold this reputation. Uniforms were distributed to prepaid taxi and auto-rickshaw drivers during the event.
Distinguished guests at the ceremony included Tripura Police Intelligence Department DIG Anurag Dhayanakar, Secretary of Tripura Government Transport Department UK Jamatia, Airport Director of Agartala Airport KC Meena, West District SP Dr. Kiran Kumar Ke, Additional SP of Traffic Sudambika R, and several prepaid taxi and auto-rickshaw drivers.
