Agartala, July 12: Leaders and supporters of Tripura Pradesh Congress held a silent satyagraha program at Gandhighat on Wednesday along with the rest of the country to protest the rejection of former Indian National Congress President Rahul Gandhi’s MP post.
Participating in the silent satyagraha, MLA Sudeep Roy Burman said that the freedom of speech of the common people of the country has been taken away during the rule of the BJP government. He added, the country is being ruled by a fascist government which is trying to destroy every pillar of democracy, people, media and various institutions. Democracy is in question today, as no one can speak, express opinions and protest without being jailed or harassed by agencies like ED, CBI and Income Tax.
According to him, Rahul Gandhi is fighting to keep Indian democracy alive and raised some questions in Parliament for the welfare of the people. But the Treasury Bench did not answer his questions and instead conspired against him. He alleged that the Gujarat High Court was complicit in rejecting Rahul Gandhi’s membership as part of the conspiracy.
Mr. Burman said that they are holding silent protests across the country to save democracy from being tarnished by conspirators. Democracy in India was not so weak that it would be defeated by conspirators. He expressed hope that the Congress under the leadership of Rahul Gandhi will restructure the country.
Former Chief Minister Sameer Barman said that he had won the assembly elections five to six times with the support of the people. The BJP-led government has taken away people’s right to speak, Ushma said.
