Agartala: Nov 29: On November 26, Constitution Day, a delegation from the Pradesh Adivasi Congress met with central leaders in Delhi to present a series of demands. The delegation raised these issues in a press conference held at the Pradesh Congress Bhavan on Friday, with the presence of Pradesh Adivasi Congress Vice Chairman Atul Debbarma, Kali Mohan Jamatiya, and General Secretary Zilim Kumar Riang.

During the press conference, the leaders shared that discussions were held with central leaders regarding amendments to the Constitution. They emphasized the urgency of the passage of the Constitution Amendment Bill in the Lok Sabha, urging that it be expedited. They expressed hope that this matter would be discussed at the upcoming All India Congress Committee (AICC) meeting.

Additionally, the delegation raised concerns about the Forest Rights Act of 2006, which they claimed has not been effectively implemented. The leaders pointed out that, at present, there is a lack of attention and action regarding the enforcement of this law. They discussed the importance of implementing the Forest Rights Act to protect the rights of tribal communities over forest land and resources.

The Pradesh Adivasi Congress leadership also highlighted that the issues raised during their meeting with central leaders are critical for the welfare and rights of tribal people in the state. They urged that these matters be prioritized and acted upon by the central government to ensure that the rights of the tribal population are safeguarded and their demands are addressed.
