Police Crackdown on Drug Abuse in Agartala

Agartala:August 09:  In a significant operation against drug abuse, the West Tripura District Superintendent of Police, Kiran Kumar, along with police forces from West and East Agartala police stations, conducted a raid on Friday evening. The operation targeted areas such as Swami Vivekananda Maidan and Dim Sagar, resulting in the detention of over 40 individuals suspected of drug consumption. The police seized drug paraphernalia, including syringes, from these individuals.

The District Superintendent of Police stated that a group of individuals had been creating a drug-ridden environment in these areas for a long time. The police launched this operation after receiving numerous complaints from locals. He further assured that such operations would continue in the future.

It has been observed that youths from various parts of the city have been coming to these areas to sell and consume drugs, deteriorating the overall environment. These individuals have been causing disturbances late at night, leading to concerns about potential loss of life. Additionally, incidents of theft and robbery have increased in these areas. Residents have been expressing their distress and have repeatedly complained to the police.

Locals have demanded strict action against these individuals to prevent further damage to their future and to ensure the safety of the area.
