Agartala: Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha today said that the Indian Police Forces, Armed Forces, and Border Forces are not only working to provide security and protection to the nation but also working to protect the sovereignty and integrity of the country.

Dr. Saha said this while attending the observance of Police Commemoration Day at Manoranjan Debbarma Smriti Stadium in Agartala.

Dr. Saha said that on 21st October, we observe Police Commemoration Day, and the entire country observed this day today.

“On this day, we are remembering the brave martyrs who have made supreme sacrifices in the service of the country and to protect the people. In India, the Armed Forces, Border Forces, and Police have worked for the safety and security of the country, and in the coming days, they will continue to do so with their skills and abilities. Not only this, but they have also protected the sovereignty and integrity of the country,” said Dr. Saha.

He said that in 1959, on 21st October, at Hot Springs in Ladakh, Indian police personnel were patrolling when Chinese forces attacked, and ten police jawans were martyred and since 1961, the Government of India has observed 21st October as Police Commemoration Day.
In Tripura also, we are observing the same.

“From 2024 till 31st August 2025, around 191 police and security personnel were martyred. From Tripura, there are two — Constable David Darlong of Tripura Police and Jawan Milon Debbarma of the 8th Battalion of Tripura State Rifles. On 12th October 2024, at Khedacherra, the vehicle of David Darlong fell into a deep gorge, and he was martyred while on duty. Jawan Milon Debbarma in Kailashahar, on 31st July 2025, died while he was on duty during an accident. I pay my deep respect to both of them,” he added.

During the event, Chief Secretary J. K. Sinha, DGP Anurag, and other officials were present.
