Agartala: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Bangladesh counterpart Sheikh Hasina on Wednesday virtually inaugurated a total of three India assisted joint projects including the much anticipated Agartala-Akhaura railway link which is considered to be one of the crucial railway connectivity projects of North East India. Apart from that, Khulna-Mongla port railway route and unit 2 of the Maitree thermal power project was also launched during the virtual event.
Speaking on the occasion, Prime Minister Narendra Modi underscored the continuously improving bilateral ties of India and Bangladesh.
“It is a matter of immense joy that we are once again here to celebrate the successful cooperation between India and Bangladesh. The long-standing friendship is scaling new heights with time”, the Prime Minister told at the event.
Thanking both the Prime Ministers, Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha said, “This is a historic moment. This occasion will be scripted in the history of Tripura in golden words. The railway connectivity project between Agartala and Akhaura will enhance international trade and tourism between both the regions. Most importantly, the railway distance between Tripura and Kolkata has been cut short to just 500 kilometers from 1,600 kilometers”.
According to the Chief Minister, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Act East policy has brought significant changes for the entire North East unlocking the true potentials of the region.
