Agartala: Nov 16: Opposition Leader Jitendra Chowdhury has accused the ruling BJP of becoming increasingly disconnected from the public and attempting to divert attention by creating divisions among the people in various parts of the state. At a press conference today, he claimed that the BJP, in an effort to mask its dwindling popularity, has been engaged in a conspiracy to foment division and unrest.

Chowdhury also highlighted the deteriorating law and order situation in the northern districts of Tripura, particularly in Kadamtala market, where a clash between two groups over extortion had left local traders badly affected. The opposition has since demanded financial compensation for the affected traders from Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha. A delegation from the CPM, including former Chief Minister Manik Sarkar, opposition leader Jitendra Chowdhury, and senior CPM leaders, had visited Kadamtala market on November 8 to assess the damage.

Chowdhury accused the state government of deliberately escalating tensions in different regions of the state, with particular focus on sowing distrust among communities, especially in northern Tripura. He pointed out that the Kadamtala market incident, which was triggered by a minor extortion dispute, escalated into a violent conflict, resulting in one death and three injuries due to police firing. He claimed that the administration could have prevented the situation from worsening if it had acted promptly, but its negligence led to significant harm.

The CPM has formally submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, demanding financial aid for the affected traders.
