Tripura’s Opposition Leader Animesh Debbarma wrote a letter to the state Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha to immediately bring back the stranded students of Tripura studying in trouble-torn Manipur. He raised if the state government is waiting for some student of Tripura to die in the violence at Manipur and only after that they shall decided to bring back the students.
According Debbarma the students are facing ‘tremendous security and safety problems in Manipur due to a state of disturbance / communal violence there and so the government kindly make necessary arrangements’ for their return.
He said this speaking to reporters in his chamber in the Tripura Legislative Assembly on Saturday a day after the Tripura government following a review meeting on Manipur scenario and condition of the state’s students studying there headed by the Chief Minister had informed that students of Tripura studying in Manipur are absolutely safe and at present there is no plan to bring them back.
Criticizing the government the Debbarma said, “One thing the Chief Minister must understand that sing at Agartala we cannot access the heat of communal violence in Manipur. We must have to understand the pain, fear and the problem of safety and security through those people who are presently in Manipur. If there is no problem of heat of the communal violence faced by the students then why they will call their parents? Why the parents will approach to us? May be no one has approached the Chief Minister directly but it does not mean that there is no problem in Manipur.”
He raised, “Is the state government is waiting for some student of Tripura to die in the violence there and only after that they shall decided to bring back the students when other states have already started evacuating their students.”
The Opposition Leader criticizing the state government and Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha for the irresponsible and calluses attitude and said, “Already three states have started evacuating their students, it is a wise step actually. Should we wait that something happens and then only we will start evacuating our students. Wiser step will be before any accident happens, before any of our student dies they should be evacuated. To bring attention of the government I have called this press meet.”
He also alleged that the present government including the CMO does not have the courtesy to acknowledge or reply to letters sent by MLS or even the Opposition Leader.
All total some 300 students of Tripura are studying in Manipur and majority of them studying at the RIMS, beside Central Agriculture University, NIT and MRIT.
