Agartala: April 07: A one-day convention on the concept of “One Nation, One Election” was held at Rabindra Bhavan in Agartala, organized by the All Tripura ASHA Facilitators and ASHA Workers Association, along with the Anganwadi Workers and Helpers Association, under the approval of the Mazdoor Monitoring Cell. The event was attended by prominent figures, including Member of Parliament and former Chief Minister of Tripura, Biplab Kumar Deb, and Mazdoor Monitoring Cell President, Biplab Kar.
During the convention, MP Biplab Kumar Deb expressed strong views on the topic, criticizing the policies of Congress and CPM. He argued that Congress’s approach to elections has led to inefficiencies, including repeated disruptions in governance and financial waste. Deb highlighted that the concept of “One Nation, One Election” could address these issues by reducing costs, ensuring continuity in governance, and fostering a more efficient democratic process.
Deb also noted that the idea is not new to India, referencing its implementation in the early years following independence. He emphasized that adopting this system could strengthen democracy, enhance voter participation, and streamline policy-making.
The convention provided a platform for discussions on the potential benefits and challenges of implementing “One Nation, One Election,” reflecting ongoing debates about electoral reforms in the country.
