Agartala, January 9: The police arrested a smuggler who was arrested with about one and a half thousand kilos of cannabis. This cannabis was caught by the police while being smuggled through the Assam Agartala National Highway in Betbagan area of Ambassa police station on Tuesday. On this day, the Dhalai District Police received information that a large quantity of cannabis would be smuggled in a lorry. Based on the information, Dhalai District Police, CRPF and Assam Rifles along with the jawans sat on the national highway for search. When the lorry was stopped and searched, 1630 kilograms of cannabis was recovered from it. A total of 1630 kilograms of cannabis was recovered in 20 packets of 80 kilograms and 2 packets of 50 kilograms. Dhalai District Police Additional Superintendent of Police Manvendra Chowdhury said that the cannabis packets were hidden inside the rubber seat packets. Their estimated market value is Rs 1 crore 63 lakh. Gurdeep Singh, the driver of the lorry, has been arrested by the police. An investigation into the incident has been started by interrogating him.
