Agartala: Nov 06: The National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) has submitted a deputation to the Tripura Board of Secondary Education (TBSE), requesting that Kokborok question papers be made available in both Bengali and Roman scripts. This demand aims to support tribal students who face difficulties in answering questions written exclusively in the Bengali script.

Currently, the TBSE has decided to align its exam schedule with that of the CBSE, advancing the exams by nearly a month. While question papers for most subjects are being prepared in both Bengali and Roman scripts, the Kokborok subject remains an exception. The question papers for Kokborok are being prepared only in Bengali, which has raised concerns among tribal students, particularly those who are more comfortable with the Roman script.

NSUI leader Amir Hossain expressed that many tribal students struggle to answer correctly due to the use of the Bengali script in Kokborok question papers. He highlighted that this restriction not only affects their performance but also impedes the natural development of the Kokborok language.

Hossain further urged the Tripura government to direct both the TBSE and the CBSE to prepare question papers for the Kokborok subject in both scripts, allowing students to choose the one they are most comfortable with. This, he believes, would enable students to perform better and ensure that the Kokborok language continues to thrive.

The deputation has sparked discussions on the need for inclusive educational policies that cater to the linguistic diversity of Tripura’s tribal communities.
