Agartala: July 23: The North District Police has arrested a notorious drug smuggler from Mizoram and brought him to the state. The name of the arrested drug smuggler is Hawlam Manga. On Tuesday, the North District Police produced the arrested drug smuggler and forwarded to court. The police is also investigating the incident.
On June 30, Bagbasa police station arrested two people along with a new car without a number plate. More than 400 grams of brown sugar were recovered from them. During interrogation of the arrested persons, the police came to know that the owner of these drugs had fled to Mizoram. A case was registered in Bagbasa police station in this regard. A team was formed under the leadership of the Additional Superintendent of Police of North District to nab the owner of these drugs. The police team duly rushed to Mizoram. With the cooperation of Mizoram Police, notorious drug smuggler Hawlam Manga was arrested from Champhai area of Mizoram. He is 36 years old. The North District Police team arrested Hawlam Manga and brought him to the state. On Tuesday, North District Superintendent of Police Bhanupad Chakraborty held a press conference to inform about the arrest of notorious drug smuggler Hawlam Manga.
Some police personnel are involved in spreading the drug net in the state. Some police personnel are buying cars in the name of their wives and using those cars to bring drugs into the state. The North District Police has already got its proof in this regard.When asked about this, the North District Superintendent of Police said that law is equal for all. Action will be taken against all those involved in drug trade. Action has already been taken against some police personnel. He also said that it is being investigated who else is involved in this drug trade.
It is learned that on Monday, Dharmanagar police station seized a Mahindra Thar car with a huge quantity of yaba tablets. The owner of this car is the wife of police constable Santosh Shil, Jhumpa Biswas. It remains to be seen what action the North District Police will take against this police constable.
