Agartala: Mar 31: In a dramatic turn of events, Nazimuddin, a feared dacoit who had terrorized the North Tripura district and the Barak Valley of Assam for over a decade, has finally been apprehended by law enforcement.

The 33-year-old Nazimuddin, son of Kutub Mian from Fulbari Gram Panchayat under Kadamtala police station, has been accused of theft and robbery spanning 10-12 years. His criminal activities extended beyond North Tripura district, reaching across the state and into the Barak Valley of Assam.

Recently, Nazimuddin and an accomplice established a temporary hideout near a businessman’s residence in the Bagbasa Uttar Gangangar area, planning a daring robbery. When the police received intelligence and pursued the criminals, they responded with gunfire using country-made weapons. The police retaliated, eventually forcing their surrender.

The dacoits were arrested on Friday morning and subsequently presented before the media on Sunday afternoon. Authorities recovered two country-made guns, a machete, lock-breaking tools, and a substantial quantity of Yaba tablets from them.

While one of the criminals managed to evade police fire, they both face charges at the Kumar Ghat police station. Nazimuddin, after receiving treatment at Dharmanagar North District Hospital, is now in police custody for a five-day remand.

Investigations reveal their involvement in a larger criminal network. They orchestrated both minor and major thefts and robberies in Tripura before escaping to Bangalore. Their return trips were marked by renewed criminal activity.

The recent surge in thefts and robberies had instilled fear in the people of Dharmanagar, underscoring the significance of Nazimuddin’s capture. Authorities remain vigilant as they continue to dismantle criminal networks and restore safety to the community.
