Agartala: Jan 29: On the occasion of the CPI(M) State Conference, national coordinator Prakash Karat delivered a sharp critique of the ruling BJP, accusing them of attempting to alter the very essence of democracy. Speaking at a public rally organized at Orient Chowmuhani, Karat emphasized that the BJP is systematically undermining democratic principles. He condemned the ruling party’s tactics, asserting that their actions were designed to silence opposition and manipulate the political landscape.
Karat began by recalling that the state conference had traditionally been held at Agartala’s Swami Vivekananda Maidan, where he had attended ten previous conferences. He noted that this year, despite the ruling party’s refusal to grant permission for a rally at the venue, the overwhelming turnout at the gathering sent a clear message. Karat expressed confidence that the BJP would receive a strong response through this show of solidarity.
In his address, Karat also criticized the Modi government’s actions over the past eleven years, claiming that they have been systematically dismantling parliamentary procedures. He highlighted how opposition leaders have been jailed, attacked, and falsely implicated in cases as part of a broader strategy to suppress dissent. He further pointed out that the government was attempting to amend the Constitution to suit its own interests.
Karat firmly stated that the government’s actions are undermining democracy both at the national and state levels. He warned that as long as the BJP remains in power, democracy will remain in peril. In conclusion, Karat reaffirmed that the Communist Party will continue its struggle to protect democracy and safeguard the rights of the people.
