Agartala: Even the activities of banned outfits like NLFT had been restricted for the last several years, a section of sympathizers and collaborators are actively working to indoctrinate youth in the remote areas of the state. According to sources, Tripura police have succeeded in apprehending a collaborator of such an NLFT (National Liberation Front of Tripura) collaborator who have been recruiting youth in the villages. Yesterday, the police arrested a local resident named Pabitra Jamatia, 38, associated with the NLFT insurgent group in the Killa area of Gomati district. He was involved in training indigenous people from Tripura to take them to Bangladesh, where the indigenous people from Tripura have been reported dead. Yesterday, the police had presented him in court. The court has sent him to judicial custody until October 23.
According to police sources, on September 20, insurgents from Tripura took four indigenous boys from Shilachari area in Khagrachari district beyond the border with bribes of packages. They were made to understand that if they surrendered in the insurgent camp in Bangladesh for a few days, they would receive government assistance. However, upon arrival there, they were compelled to undergo a two-month training. As a result, three of them have returned to Tripura. The matter came to the attention of the police, and the security forces initiated various searches to apprehend the NLFT. Returning to Tripura, the police launched an operation based on secret information and arrested Pabitra from his own home. He was presented in court yesterday. The court has sent him to judicial custody until October 23.
