The protests were sparked by allegations against the NIT hospital concerning the death of Abhijit Panda, a student of Triple IT. Students claimed that Abhijit’s death was due to improper medical treatment at the NIIT hospital. The situation escalated quickly, prompting hostel authorities to intervene and eventually call the police to restore order.

Despite the police’s efforts, confusion remains regarding the cause of Abhijit’s death. On Thursday morning, NSUI and hostel students staged another protest, reiterating their claims that Abhijit had fallen seriously ill and did not receive adequate treatment at the NIIT hospital. They alleged that he died due to heart problems after returning home.

In response to the protests, authorities assured students that a committee would be formed to investigate the matter. NSUI leaders warned of a larger movement if their concerns were not addressed.

Minister Sushanta Chowdhury, upon learning of the incident, visited the hospital and spoke with students and NIIT Superintendent Sharad Kumar Panda. He acknowledged that Abhijit, a student from Hyderabad, had been ill for some time and had received treatment at local hospitals before his death. The cause of death is still under investigation.

Addressing the students, the minister urged them to refrain from protests that could harm the college’s reputation. He also acknowledged the significant shortage of medical services at NIIT Hospital and assured students that their concerns would be addressed.
