The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has launched an extensive raid operation in Tripura’s Unakoti district in connection with a case related to the creation of fake documents. According to district police sources, the raids began early Wednesday morning across several locations in the district as part of an ongoing investigation into the case.
The operation reportedly targets two individuals — Paritosh Shil, a resident of Bhagyapur area under Kailasahar police station, and Ranu Pal, a resident of Nidevi area under Kumarghat police station. Both are suspected to be involved in producing and circulating forged documents, sources said.
Investigators have also found evidence of suspicious financial transactions linked to their bank accounts. Moreover, the NIA suspects that the duo may have connections with individuals across the border in Bangladesh, raising concerns about possible cross-border networks engaged in document forgery and illegal financial activities.
As of Wednesday noon, no arrests had been made. However, during the search at Ranu Pal’s residence, the NIA reportedly seized three mobile phones for forensic examination.
Confirming the development, the Tripura Police issued a statement acknowledging the NIA’s operation. The state police said that the raids are part of an investigation into an old case and assured that full cooperation is being extended to the central agency.
Sources suggest that the current searches in Tripura are part of a broader nationwide crackdown by the NIA against interstate and cross-border fake document rackets. The agency has not yet disclosed further details, citing the ongoing nature of the investigation.
