Agartala: Mar 22: An indefinite national highway blockade, led by the Tripura Indigenous Students’ Federation (TISF), is ongoing across the state, demanding the adoption of Roman script for the Kokborok language. The blockade, which began on Friday, has caused significant disruption in various regions, impacting daily life and essential services.

Despite an agreement signed between the central government and Tipra Motha party supremo Maharaja Pradyot Kishore Debbarma, party workers have continued the blockade. This has led to widespread difficulties for the general public, with students and regular travelers struggling to reach their destinations. In Teliamura, a long queue of goods-carrying vehicles has formed, raising concerns among drivers. Ambulances have also been stuck, endangering patients in need of urgent medical care.

The blockade persisted on Saturday, particularly in Baramura and Bishramganj. In Bishramganj, bus drivers from Sonamura were unable to travel towards Agartala, exacerbating the challenges faced by passengers. Ordinary citizens and office workers have been stranded for extended periods. Efforts by the police to remove the blockade, which involved clearing bricks and tree logs, led to tense situations before the roads were eventually cleared.

Meanwhile, a 45-kilometer-long queue of goods-carrying vehicles, many transporting perishable items, has been reported up to Teliamura. The blockade has severely disrupted road communication, with the stretch from Baramura to Teliamura, spanning 21 kilometers, particularly affected.

The ongoing blockade has drawn criticism for its impact on public life, with many expressing frustration over the lack of effective measures by the administration to address the situation.
