Tripura GMP to contest all 28 seats in upcoming ADC polls

Agartala: Feb 18: Former Chief Minister and current Member of Parliament, Biplab Kumar Deb, has strongly criticized the opposition, particularly the CPI(M), following their absence at the recent “Disha” meeting in West Tripura. The meeting, held at the Sonar Tori Guest House, was attended by department officials to review the central government’s schemes and their implementation by the state government. Deb explained that these “Disha” meetings are conducted every three months to ensure that the central schemes reach the public effectively.

Responding to the absence of CPI(M) lawmakers at the meeting, Deb took a sharp dig at the opposition. He remarked that despite being invited, the opposition leaders did not attend, calling them representatives of a “different world.” According to Deb, the CPI(M) had only managed to secure a few seats in the state assembly by forming an alliance with the Congress during the last election. Without this alliance, Deb suggested, the CPI(M) would have been reduced to a “species of a vanishing breed,” meaning it would have been politically irrelevant in the state.

Deb also claimed that the opposition’s actions, which he described as unconstitutional, would further contribute to the loss of these seats in future elections. He implied that the party’s current position was unsustainable due to its alleged failure to represent the people’s needs and its disregard for the Constitution.

In his statement, Deb emphasized the ongoing efforts of the state government to implement central government plans effectively and expressed confidence that the government’s approach would continue to win the people’s trust, even as he criticized the opposition for their lack of participation and engagement.
