Agartala: August 02: The text discusses a recent incident in Gandacherra, Tripura, where a significant number of families have been displaced and are now living in relief camps. The opposition party is accusing the ruling BJP government of mishandling the situation and neglecting the affected people.

“Misgovernance in Tripura for the past six years has culminated in the unfortunate incident at Gandacherra. As a result of this incident, 165 families have taken refuge in relief camps. However, it is unfortunate that the Chief Minister, Professor (Dr.) Manik Saha, has not visited the devastated areas of Gandacherra and the relief camps. Today, at a press conference, the Leader of the Opposition, Jitendra Chowdhury, criticized the BJP government and brought it to task over the situation in Gandacherra. He further added that an abnormal situation prevails in the state. Therefore, several demands have been made to the government to normalize the situation.”

“Incidentally, the Leader of the Opposition, Jitendra Chowdhury, along with MLAs Ramu Das, Sudip Sarkar, Nayan Sarkar, Naresh Jamatia, Sudhan Das, and other leaders, visited the devastated areas of Gandacherra and the relief camps yesterday. They visited various places including 20 Card, 6-7 Card, 12 Card, Durgapur, Pichlighatpar M.R. Das Para, Saram Bazar, and the Gandacherra Class XII school relief camp. They spoke to the affected families and also interacted with the family members of the deceased Parmeshwar Riang. Today, the Left leadership held a press conference regarding the situation in Gandacherra.”

“At today’s press conference, the Leader of the Opposition, Jitendra Chowdhury, said that the incident involving Parmeshwar Riang on July 7 was not pre-planned. He was a victim of an accident, but turning Gandacherra into ruins was a pre-planned event. Misgovernance in Tripura for the past six years has culminated in the unfortunate incident at Gandacherra.”

“He claimed that during the visit, Parmeshwar Riang’s father said that it was being propagated that his son was an addict, but this was completely false propaganda. Chowdhury also presented the horrific face of Gandacherra at the press conference.”

“He said that as they entered the 20 Card and 30 Card areas, they encountered a horrific sight. Miscreants had burnt down houses, shops, poultry farms, and livestock. As a result of this incident, 165 families have taken refuge in relief camps. About 72 families have been completely burnt to ashes. The affected families in the relief camps are spending their days in miserable conditions.”

“He alleged that they are sleeping on a thin polythene sheet and a bedsheet on a concrete floor and falling ill. Besides, there is no provision for drinking water or toilets.”

“Chowdhury said that no one wants to stay in the camp for a long time. They have to come to the camp in difficult times, but prolonging the camp life is not justified in any way. Therefore, he demanded that the state government provide them with proper compensation and make arrangements for their return home. Besides, he demanded that adequate security measures be taken in the village, all expenses including medical treatment be borne as long as they return home, the culprits be punished through the investigation process, and effective measures be taken to maintain peace and harmony.”
