Agartala October 9: The secretariat today discussed various issues including overall review of the functioning of the public distribution system at the field level at present, distribution of edible oil and other commodities to the consumers at affordable prices and free canvas bags, ensuring the price and availability of essential commodities during the festive season. A video conference was held in the hall with various sub-divisional governors and officials of various levels associated with food departments of the 8 (eight) districts of the state to discuss various important issues related to Public Distribution System (PDS) for strengthening the public distribution system and overall development of all including consumers. Sushanta Chowdhury, Minister of Food, Public Procurement and Consumer Affairs, Government of Tripura participated in the video conference.
From the high-ranking officials present in today’s video conference, he learned about the detailed information about the stock of foodstuff in different divisions of different states and instructed the officials of the food department to take necessary measures to keep stock in the warehouses of the food department in accordance with the demand according to the requirements of the officials.
Besides, he instructed the officials to conduct on-the-spot monitoring in regular markets to keep the price of daily necessities stable and within the reach of consumers at a tolerable level during the upcoming festival season and prevent black market. The Food Minister gave necessary suggestions to strengthen the public distribution system with the collective efforts of all and to bring more dynamics in the work of the Department of Food, Public Procurement and Consumer Affairs for the overall development of all including consumers.
Today’s video conference was attended by the Director of Food, Public Procurement and Consumer Affairs Department Nirmal Adhikari, Additional Director Animesh Debbarma and various Sub-Divisional Authorities.
