Agartala:Mar 26: “Tripura’s local newspaper ‘Daily Desher Katha’ has been accused of breach of privilege by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ratan Lal Nath. In a complaint submitted to Tripura Assembly Speaker Bishwabandhu Sen, Minister Nath alleged that the newspaper published a ‘misleading and deliberately motivated report’ regarding his remarks made during the assembly session.

On March 24, during the budget discussion, Minister Nath addressed opposition leader Jitendra Choudhury, saying, ‘In his speech, he revealed his true nature.’ Later, Mr. Nath clarified his statement, adding, ‘Mr. Jitendra, in his speech, exposed the true nature of communists. I don’t want to see you in this place anymore because you don’t belong here.’

Mr. Nath stated that his remarks had no unparliamentary meaning. However, he accused the CPI(M)’s local mouthpiece ‘Daily Desher Katha’ of distorting his comments for political gain and misleading the public. He alleged that his words were intentionally given a communal perspective and were used to incite hatred in a calculated manner.

The minister attached copies of the newspaper’s report and relevant excerpts from the assembly proceedings to support his proposal. He requested the Speaker to take necessary action under Rule 173 of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in the Tripura Assembly.”
