Agartala, Sept 24:  – Former Chief Minister and Politburo member Manik Sarkar expressed concerns over the law and order situation in Tripura during a memorial meeting held at Rabindra Shatabarshiki Bhavan on Tuesday. The meeting was organized to pay tribute to the late CPI(M) Central Committee General Secretary Sitaram Yechury.

Sarkar highlighted the rise in crimes against women and criticized the government’s response to incidents over the past one and a half months. He accused the current administration of establishing a one-party rule and manipulating elections over the past seven years. He urged the public to take to the streets to demand change, stating that mere statements would not suffice.

Sarkar also addressed issues of corruption, alleging that no work is done in government offices without monetary incentives. He pointed out that the Chief Minister’s office is being managed in a way that favors contractors, leading to internal conflicts within the ruling party.

He questioned the allocation of a 564 crore rupee package announced by the Chief Minister, asking where the funds were being utilized. Sarkar criticized the government’s handling of relief efforts following recent floods, noting that people are being evicted from relief camps and given insufficient funds to rebuild their homes.

Sarkar further accused the BJP, RSS, and Vishwa Hindu Parishad of inciting communal tensions and carrying out provocative activities in specific areas. He called for organized protests to compel the government to address the basic needs of the people.

The memorial meeting was attended by CPI(M) All India leadership Prakash Karat, CPI(M) state secretary Jitendra Chaudhury, and other leaders. Flowers were offered to Sitaram Yechury’s portrait as a mark of respect before the meeting commenced.
