Agartala: May 09: In response to the recent landslide that disrupted vehicular movement on the Assam-Agartala road, some traders in Agartala have been taking advantage of the situation by charging exorbitant prices for onions and potatoes. To tackle this issue and regulate prices, the Sadar Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) convened a meeting with wholesale traders in the capital city.
The meeting, held at the SDM’s office, aimed to encourage wholesale traders to maintain reasonable prices for these essential commodities. The SDM acknowledged the rising prices of onions and potatoes and emphasized the need to assess stock levels of these vegetables and other essential items. The primary objective was to ensure that consumers do not face undue hardship.
The SDM assured that there is an adequate stock of onions and potatoes in the market. However, prices of essential goods have surged in the state’s markets due to unscrupulous traders arbitrarily hiking prices. In response to numerous consumer complaints, the Sadar Sub-Divisional Administration is now taking action to address the situation.
