Agartala, Oct 6: A massive fire broke out in the Joynagar Chakra Sangha area of the capital city on Monday, completely destroying an old residential house and damaging nearby property.

The house, owned by Gobinda Pal—currently residing in Kolkata—was rented out to tenants at the time of the incident. According to eyewitnesses, the blaze began suddenly, accompanied by intense heat and loud banging noises, prompting panic among residents who quickly alerted authorities.

Three fire engines from the city’s fire service department rushed to the spot and battled the flames for nearly an hour before managing to bring the situation under control. Despite their efforts, fire personnel confirmed that the house was entirely gutted, and nothing could be salvaged.

“The fire spread rapidly due to the structure’s age and the presence of combustible materials,” said a firefighter at the scene. “We tried our best to contain it, but the flames were too strong, and the residence was completely lost.”

The fire also destroyed vehicles parked near the house, including a car and a scooter, adding to the overall loss. Fortunately, no casualties or injuries were reported.

Authorities have launched an investigation to ascertain the exact cause of the fire. Preliminary reports suggest that an electrical short circuit or gas leak could be possible triggers, but officials are yet to confirm.

The incident has left the Joynagar community deeply shaken, with locals expressing concern over the lack of fire safety measures in older residential areas. Many urged the administration to conduct awareness drives and safety inspections to prevent such disasters in the future.

The district fire department has urged residents to ensure proper wiring, safe gas storage, and the installation of basic firefighting equipment in their homes.
