Agartala: August 03: Every community has its own unique customs and traditions, followed year after year based on beliefs and reasoning. One such traditional festival in Tripura is the Ker Puja, which was initiated by the kings of Tripura many centuries ago and continues to this day. The tribal people of Tripura perform the Ker Puja annually, believing it helps ward off diseases and protect them from the evil eye.
The Ker Puja is held fourteen days after the Kharchi Puja. This year, it was celebrated at Ujjayanta Palace, adhering to traditional rituals. The puja is conducted by a person known as ‘Chantay’ and is centered around a ‘Gandi’ (a sacred enclosure). According to a priest, the Maharaja of Tripura started this puja to ensure the well-being of the people of Tripura, seeking peace, prosperity, and happiness.
The Ker Puja will conclude at 5 am on Sunday. In recognition of the festival, the government declared a holiday on Saturday.
