Senior Congress leader and long-time member of the Pradesh Congress Committee, Pradip Roy, passed away on Thursday night at the age of 74. He breathed his last at his residence in Durgapur Ratiya, Kalyanpur, following prolonged age-related ailments. According to family sources, Roy passed away around 10:30 p.m. His relatives later took him to Kalyanpur Hospital for formalities, after which his mortal remains were brought back home at approximately 2:30 a.m.

The news of his demise sent shockwaves across political circles in Kalyanpur and beyond, bringing together leaders from various parties to honor the memory of the respected veteran. On Friday morning, Kalyanpur MLA Pinaki Das Choudhury visited the late leader’s residence to pay his last respects. Visibly moved, he expressed deep sorrow over the loss and recalled Roy’s significant contribution to the political landscape of the region. “Pradip Kumar Roy was one of the prominent leaders of the anti-Left movement. His sudden demise is deeply saddening. Just last Tuesday, I had visited him and found him in normal health. This unexpected loss is truly painful,” the MLA said.

Later in the day, Choudhury joined the family again as they performed the last rites. He offered prayers for the departed soul and conveyed his solidarity with the grieving relatives during the emotional ceremony.

Several Congress leaders and workers also arrived at Roy’s residence to pay homage. Among them were Kartik Debnath, Block Congress president Prashanta Deb, and many grassroots party members who had worked closely with Roy over the years. Former District Congress president Bikram Kishore Sinha remembered the late leader with reverence, describing him as “a rare leader in today’s times – honest, loyal, and deeply committed to the party.”

Pradip Roy’s political journey spanned several decades, during which he emerged as a steadfast supporter of Congress ideology and a spirited voice in the anti-Left movement. His dedication, discipline, and unwavering loyalty earned him respect among colleagues and rivals alike. His passing marks the end of an era in Kalyanpur politics, leaving a void that will be difficult to fill.

As the community mourns, Roy’s legacy of commitment, honesty, and service to the party and the people of Kalyanpur will long be remembered.
