International Mother Language Day Celebrated in Agartala

Agartala: Jan 21: International Mother Language Day was observed with due dignity at the Bangladesh Assistant High Commission office in Agartala. The day’s formal inauguration began with the laying of wreaths at the temporary martyrs’ memorial at the commissioner’s office. Additionally, the national flag of Bangladesh was kept at half-mast in honor of Martyrs’ Day and International Mother Language Day.

The event included a cultural program to pay tribute to the heroes who sacrificed their lives for the recognition of the Bengali language. Assistant High Commissioner Arif Mohammad and other dignitaries were present at the event. Speaking to journalists, Commissioner Arif Mohammad highlighted that since UNESCO recognized February 21 as International Mother Language Day in 1999, it has been celebrated in various countries. He conveyed his best wishes and congratulations to all on the occasion.

 

Simultaneously, a state-level program was organized by the Department of School Education at Agartala Town Hall. The event was inaugurated by Agriculture and Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath, who emphasized the state government’s respect for all languages and its efforts for their development. He urged the attending school children to be respectful of other languages along with their mother tongue.
